IES FOUNDATION YEAR

IES Foundation Year prepares international students for study at The University of Queensland (UQ). Upon successful completion of the program, you are guaranteed entry into most undergraduate programs at UQ (quotas apply in some programs).

Three programs are available: Extended, Standard, and Express. Program selection is based on your academic results and English proficiency. Each program is tailored to your individual needs and undergraduate aim.

Studying IES Foundation Year, you will join a multi-cultural environment of students from more than 40 countries. There are approximately 600 students currently studying the program and preparing to enter programs such as Engineering, Health Science, Business, Science, Arts and Information Technology - all fields for which UQ is renowned.

GUARANTEED PLACE AT THE UNIVERSITY OF QUEENSLAND

Students who achieve the specified standards are guaranteed a place in the first year of most undergraduate programs at UQ.

 

SCHOLARSHIPS AND BURSARIES

Scholarships are available for students from selected countries wishing to enter IES Foundation Year in the Standard and Express programs. Scholarships cover up to 50% of the tuition fees.

Scholarships and Bursaries are also available for graduates pursuing study in selected undergraduate programs at UQ. They are awarded on academic merit and open to all students enrolled in IES Foundation Year.

THE PROGRAM

As an IES Foundation Year student you will improve your English language skills, acquire essential knowledge for your undergraduate preference and develop the skills necessary for university study in Australia.

Students study five academic subjects throughout the program. Academic English for University Study and Mathematics are compulsory subjects for all students. Elective subjects are chosen based upon your undergraduate preference and interests and include Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Economics, Accounting, Business Management, Information Technology, Behavioural Science, Research and Architecture. Students receive a high standard of instruction from experienced and qualified teachers and helpful tutors.

 

SUPPORT SERVICES AND FACILITIES

Throughout your IES Foundation Year studies, you will be guided by academic staff and student counsellors who will help you achieve your goals. A rich calendar of extra-curricular and social events is also available to help you make friends, experience Brisbane and familiarise yourself with UQ.

 

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Entry into IES Foundation Year is determined by your English language proficiency and academic performance.

English language proficiency of IELTS 5.0 (minimum for Extended Program) – Pre-entry English language courses in Australia can be arranged for applicants who do not meet the required level of proficiency.
